Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation
The Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation conducts scientific research and hosts educational programs aimed at conserving the marine environment. The GHOF will help ensure that future generations can enjoy and benefit from a naturally balanced ocean ecosystem.
- Who We
THE GUY HARVEY OCEAN FOUNDATION AND GUY HARVEY RESEARCH INSTITUTE ARE GLOBAL LEADERS IN TAGGING AND TRACKING PELAGIC FISH, INCLUDING SHARKS AND BILLFISH. CURRENT PROJECTS INCLUDE:
Shortfin Mako shark tagging (Isla Mujeres, Mexico / Ocean City, MD) :
Shortfin mako are highly targeted by both recreational and commercial fishermen because, unlike most shark species, there is a seafood market for mako meat. shortfin makos are classified as 'vulnerable to extinction' by the IUCN.
Oceanic Whitetip shark tagging (Cayman Islands):
Oceanic whitetip sharks where once the most abundant large predator on the planet. It is estimated that populations of oceanic whitetips have declined upwards of 99% from historical levels in some locations. Oceanic whitetips are classified as 'Vulnerable to Extinction' by the IUCN.
Tiger shark tagging (Cayman Islands)
Tiger sharks can be found almost anywhere, from the shallows of the coral reefs to the deep blue water of the open ocean. Tiger sharks are currently listed as 'Near Threatened with Extinction' by the IUCN.
Blue and White marlin tagging (Isla Mujeres, Mexico / Cayman Islands)
Blue and White marlin are highly targeted by both recreational and commercial fishermen and are under intense pressure from commercial longline fishing. Blue and White marlin are both currently listed as 'Vulnerable to Extinction' by the IUCN.
Southern Stingray census and monitoring (Grand Cayman)
The stingrays at grand cayman's stingray city are a unique wildlife interaction zone that contributes hundreds of thousands of dollars per year to the cayman island's economy.
Nassau Grouper Spawning Aggregation Documentation
The Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation works with researchers from REEF, the Cayman Islands Department of the Environment, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and Oregon State University to document and survey one of the largest, and last remaining, Nassau grouper spawning aggregations in the Caribbean.
The GHOF Funds Academic Scholarships And Creates Unique Educational Curricula To Help Foster The Next Generation of Ocean Conservationists.
Guy Harvey Endowed Scholarship:
Guy Harvey Endowed Scholarship is available for graduate (MS or PhD) students who are, or will be, both enrolled in marine science graduate degree programs associated with Nova Southeastern programs associated with Nova Southeastern.
Guy Harvey Educational Curriculum:
CPALMS is an Online toolbox of information, vetted resources, and interactive tools that helps educators effectively implement teaching standards. It is the State of florida's official source for standards information and course descriptions but can be accessed and used by educators all over the world.
Guy Harvey Scholarship Award:
