Enjoying a Little R&R, Then Back to Work!

    April 26th, 2009

    Hi Everyone,

Well, after a whirlwind trip through Florida, which included – among other things – 1) a meeting with Florida Governor Charlie Crist (stay tuned for big news from this meeting), 2) celebrating the grand opening of the new Guy Harvey’s Island Grill in Panama City Beach, FL with 400 of our closest friends! and 3) a two-day visit to the University of Florida for a speaking engagement and then a signing event at Florida Bookstore, I finally returned home to Grand Cayman early last week for a little R&R (nothing recharges the batteries like savoring a cold drink while soaking in the Caribbean sun)!

The Guy Harvey team cuts the ribbon to officially open the Guy Harvey's Island Grill in Panama City Beach, FL on April 16th.

Now that my working vacation is over, it’s time to get back to work on several ongoing projects, which includes two new books. More details will follow soon, but I can tell you right now that one book is a follow-up to my memoir, Portraits From The Deep, while the second one will detail the history – and many adventures –  of one of the world’s great fishing resorts, the Tropic Star Lodge in Panama. I look forward to putting the finishing touches on both books and I will keep everyone apprised of their publishing dates as details become finalized.

One last thing – don’t forget that I am back in the US for several appearances between Memorial Day weekend and the July 4th weekend, beginning with a May 23rd appearance at the Guy Harvey Island Grill in Orange Beach, AL. I look forward to seeing everyone at one of these events:

May 23rd – Guy Harvey’s Island Grill – Orange Beach, AL

May 24th – Guy Harvey’s Island Grill – Panama City Beach, FL

    May 30th – Beall’s Department Store – Bradenton, FL

    May 31st – Beall’s Department Store – Naples, FL

June 6th – Academy Sports & Outdoors – Lafayette, LA

June 7th – Academy Sports & Outdoors – Gulfport, MS

July 4th – Guy Harvey’s Island Grill – Panama City Beach, FL

    Cheers!

    Pink Boots and Bathing Suits

    April 19th, 2009

    Hi All -

It’s time to put on your pink fishing boots and your lucky bathing suit and go fishing with the Fishin’ Chix and the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation. The Fishin’ Chix, a Pensacola, FL-based group of female fishing fanatics, will be holding the first event in their 2009 Pink Rubber Boots Ladies Fishing Rodeo series on Saturday, May 9th (Mother’s Day weekend) at LuLu’s in Gulf Shores, AL.

    Fishin' Chix

While this outstanding group of ladies has a ton of fun when they are on the water, they are also working hard to raise money to support worthwhile causes. I am pleased to announce that a portion of the proceeds from this year’s tournament series will be donated to the GHOF. We are extremely proud of this group for their commitment to sport fishing and their support of marine conservation. I encourage everyone to participate in a Fishin’ Chix rodeo. Check out the Fishin’ Chix web site for more information on the group as well as the tournament schedule.

    Cheers!

    Hi Everyone,

It’s about time for me to leave the Island and head for the mainland for the April 16th Grand Opening of the new Guy Harvey Island Grill in Panama City Beach, FL. A huge thanks to all of you for the unbelievable success of all the Island Grill locations. Our message of serving only sustainable seafood is not only very timely, but it also appears to be very important to our patrons as all of you have responded so positively to our efforts to serve a carefully selected menu of seafood that is free of overexploited or threatened species.

GHOF Partners with the World's Biggest Kayak Fishing Tournament

    April 2nd, 2009

I am excited to announce a new partnership between the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation and the Columbia Sportswear Jacksonville Kayak Fishing Classic, which is billed as the largest kayak fishing tournament in the world. This unique event, which features over 340 participants and $80,000 in prizes, does an incredible job of promoting the great sport of kayak fishing while also communicating a message of conservation and ethical fishing practices. This message is right in line with the mission of our own organization, so our sponsorship of the Classic is a natural fit.

    Jacksonville Kayak Fishing

In addition to being a sponsor of the Columbia Sportswear Jacksonville Kayak Fishing Classic, the GHOF will also be one of its beneficiaries. Portions of the proceeds from the Classic will be donated to the GHOF to support our goal of funding inspired scientific research and innovative educational programs. Additional proceeds will be given to Daniel Memorial, Florida’s oldest children’s services agency, which provides for abused and neglected children.

The entire GHOF organization is proud to sponsor this great event and we encourage all fishermen, kayakers and conservationists to support this worthwhile event as well. For more information about the Classic, and to sign up for this year’s event, visit their web site at http://www.jaxkayakfishing.com.

    Cheers!
