The Guy Harvey 2nd Annual Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation Fundraising Banquet
Ocean Foundation hosted its 2nd Annual Fundraising Banquet in October at the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame. In addition to raising money to fund ocean conservation research and education activities, friends and guests were on hand to celebrate Dr. Harvey’s induction to the Fishing Hall of Fame. Guests were treated to cocktails and hors d’oeuvres as a steel drummer got the festivities started. “Captain Jack Sparrow” and crew were on hand to take pictures with guests and other pirates in attendance. Silent and live auctions were held featuring fantastic trips, fishing gear, artwork, and other gifts, with all proceeds benefitting the ocean conservation research and education efforts of the GHOF.
The party moved into the IGFA Records Room where host Paul Castronovo, of 105.9’s Paul and Young Ron Show, welcomed everyone as they sat down for a delicious sustainable seafood dinner. In attendance were Guy’s “mum”, Josephine Cruishank, Miami Dolphin’s linebacker Channing Crowder, and featured artist Kent Ullberg. Guy then took the stage and briefly spoke about the research efforts and direction of the GHOF in the coming year, notably the need for increased shark conservation projects. The night concluded with the judging of “Best Pirate Costume”, which was won by Michelle Grey.
A good time was had by everyone in attendance and, most importantly, over $150,000 was raised in the name of ocean conservation. Guy Harvey and the rest of the GHOF would like to thank everyone who took the time to help us celebrate and support our research and education efforts. We hope to see everyone again next year prior to the Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show.
